Jesus says the church is the light of the world. We’re supposed to shine, so that others see the good we do and glorify God. But we often don’t feel like the light. Because we know the dark places we’ve been, and the darkness that dwells in us. In this message, we look to a fun source for tips on how to be the light of the world: fireflies.

1 Peter 2.9 says believers are called to tell the story of how Jesus has called us out of darkness, into his amazing light. This message retells three stories from the Gospels of Luke and John of people who were called from the darkness, into Christ’s amazing light. What about you? What’s your story? And how will you tell it?

For the last 1500 years, as the dark days of winter set in, the church has celebrated Advent. A time of waiting for Christ, the light of the world, to be born. John 1:5 says: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness doesn’t extinguish the light.” This is the gospel of Christ in one sentence. The darkness of sin, shame, and death cannot extinguish His light. But He can and will chase away the darkness in us.
