1 Peter 2.9 says believers are called to tell the story of how Jesus has called us out of darkness, into his amazing light. This message retells three stories from the Gospels of Luke and John of people who were called from the darkness, into Christ’s amazing light. What about you? What’s your story? And how will you tell it?

For the last 1500 years, as the dark days of winter set in, the church has celebrated Advent. A time of waiting for Christ, the light of the world, to be born. John 1:5 says: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness doesn’t extinguish the light.” This is the gospel of Christ in one sentence. The darkness of sin, shame, and death cannot extinguish His light. But He can and will chase away the darkness in us.

In Isaiah 55.1-11, God invites everyone with a hungry heart to come to his feast. Joy is a choice we make to trust God’s plans when our desires are awakened. Joy beckons us to come to God in faith, and live out God’s hopes for us. What will you do to choose joy during this season of Advent?

In Daniel 3, God didn’t keep his faithful saints from going into the fiery furnace. But God did go through the fires with them. What can we learn from their experience to give us hope in this life? How will we change when we truly trust that God goes with us in everything?
